Edward Middleton Barry (1830-1880) architect, third designed the new house in 1873, which Pevsner described as 'very ugly French Renaissance', but it was the third house in the country to have electricity! He was the son of the famous Victorian architect Sir Charles Barry, who built Mount Felix in Walton-on-Thames, and the Houses of Parliament.
