George Edward Thomas Eyston (1897-1979) racing driver associated with MG, which he raced from the early 1930s and 'Speed of the Wind', which in July 1936 Eyston broke the world hour record, and 'Thunderbolt' in which he broke the world land speed record at his first attempt in 1937 (312 m.p.h.) His old friend and rival John Cobb then took the record, but Eyston beat him at 345.5 m.p.h. in 1938 and then raised the speed later the same year to 357.5 m.p.h.
