George II (1683-1760) King of Great Britain and Ireland, and Elector of Hanover. Whilst he was Prince of Wales, George Augustus was appointed Regent from July 1716 to January 1717 during his father's visit to Hanover. He spent the summer of 1716 at Hampton Court where he entertained lavishly, and frequented The Swan Inn at Thames Ditton.
