George Jeffreys, first Baron Jeffreys of Wem, (1645-1689) also known as 'The Hanging Judge', became notable during the reign of King James II, rising to the position of Lord Chancellor and serving a Lord High Steward. In 1667, he married Sarah Neesham or Needham, by whom he had seven children before her death in 1678, who was the daughter of the poor vicar from Stoke d'Abernon.
