H.H. [Heathfield Harman] Stephenson
Heathfield Harman [known as HH] Stephenson (1833 - 1896) cricketer during the game's roundarm era. Stephenson bowled right-arm fast roundarm, batted right-handed and was an occasional wicketkeeper. HH Stephenson was the first cricketer to be awarded a hat for taking three wickets in consecutive balls - the origin of the word hat trick. In 1859 Stephenson was one of the twelve players who took part in cricket's first overseas tour when an England team visited North America. In 1861-62 Stephenson captained the England team that made the inaugural tour of Australia. He was born in Esher and played for Thames Ditton and England.
