James Sadler (bap. 1753, d. 1828) balloonist and chemist, In May 1785 at The Priory (now Molesey Football Club) he made one of the earliest balloon flights in England with the politician William Windham. On 4th October 1784 in Oxford he had made the first ever ascent by any English aeronaut with a 170ft hot-air balloon he had constructed himself, ascending to 3600ft before landing six miles away.
