Janet Vida Watson
Janet Vida Watson [married name Sutton] (1923-1985), Geologist. Watson made a substantial contribution to understanding of the earth's oldest rocks. She published the successful two volume 'Introduction to Geology' in 1962 and 1976, and 'Beginning Geology' in 1966. Numerous awards recognised her work, and from 1982-84 she was the first woman president of the Geological Society of London. She was also Vice-President of the Royal Society from 1983 until her death in 1985 at her home in Sandy Drive, Oxshott.
