John Wilson Croker
John Wilson Croker (1780-1857) politician and writer. Served in various government posts from October 1809 to August 1830 under four different Prime Ministers, and fought against the Reform Bill from the backbenches thereafter. In 1828, two years before he left political office, he bought a cottage with fifteen acres at West Molesey, which he called Molesey Grove, and made into his family home. He had a large library and wrote political, biographical, and historical reviews for the Quarterly Review.
