John Everett Millais
Sir John Everett Millais, first baronet (1829-1896), painter. A key member of the Pre-Raphaelites, Millais returned from Perth in Scotland to live in London from 1861 and visited the Duff-Gordons at Esher. Janet Ross's autobiography records a boat trip with her parents, Phillips, Doyle, and Millais, in which Millais caught a chill and was laid up at their house for a week: "Millais did catch cold, though he did not dive, and was laid up at our house for a week with a very bad throat. I remember it because I had to sit by his bedside and change the iced bandages."
