[Albert] Noel Campbell Macklin
Famous for his car making and boat-designing, Macklin founded two car assembly companies: 'Invicta' and 'Railton'. His 'Fairmile Engineering Company' took its name from the name of Macklin's family estate in Cobham, where he used the garage for manufacturing and assembly. During the Second World War he founded Fairmile Marine and designed several small boats for the navy. Fairmile boats served in the Navy as motorboats, gunboats and torpedo boats.
