Philip Speakman Webb (1831-1915) architect, member of the Pre-Raphaelites who designed 'Sandroyd' near Cobham (later called 'Benfleet Hall') a studio-house commissioned by his painter friend, Spencer Stanhope in 1860, and completed in 1864. Webb was also a close friend and teacher of William Morris for whom he designed the Red House.
