Rupert, Prince and Count Palatine of the Rhine and Duke of Cumberland (1619-1682) Royalist Army and Naval Officer. He briefly made Oatlands his Royalist headquarters during the civil war, lodging there after his advance to London had been stopped by Essex's parliamentary forces on the Great West Road to London, at Turnham Green on 13th November 1642. He left Oatlands and joined King Charles I in Oxford in 1643.
