Beatrice Leopoldine Victoria, princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha [called Bea by her family] (1884-1966). A granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She married Alfonso de Orleans y Borbon, Infante of Spain. During the 1920s, King Alfonso XIII of Spain (cousin to Beatrice's husband) had numerous affairs and dalliances, and illegitimate children. It was rumoured that he had an affair with Beatrice. Queen Maria Christina (the Queen Dowager was convinced of the rumours and insisted Beatrice leave Spain. When she refused, King Alfonso was forced to exile her. For a time she leased 'The Homewood', and her children attended school at nearby Sandroyds, later moving to Winchester College.
