Reynold Alleyne Higgins (1916-1993), archaeologist. Born in Weybridge. As keeper in the British Museum's Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities, he gained international acclaim for cataloguing the terracottas, 'Catalogue of the Terracottas' in the British Museum (two volumes, 1954 and 1959). His studies of the figurines illuminated aspects of ancient Greek dress and daily life. "...few museum scholars have reached such a worldwide readership and audience." (ODNB) Higgins also pioneered archaeological approaches to the consequences of the decipherment.
