Siegfried Loraine Sassoon, (1886-1967) was a poet and author. He was the grandson of David and Flora Sassoon who owned Ashley Park in Walton-on-Thames. However, Flora disinherited and banished two of her children from Ashley Park for marrying outside the Jewish faith. Her second son, Alfred Ezra Sassoon (1861-1895) who was Siegfried's father, married Theresa Thornycroft, from the famous sculpting family, who was a Catholic. So, Siegfried never visited the house whilst his grandparents owned it, but visited Ashley Park when it was later owned by the Sturgis family, and he was staying with his close friend E.M. Forster at Weybridge.
