Sir Thomas Frederick, third Baronet (1680-1731), who served in the East India Company as a Governor in Madras, acquired Burwood. His son Sir John Frederick (1708-1783), a city merchant, built the original Burwood Park mansion in 1740. The Frederick estates were broken up in 1873 after the death of Sir Richard Frederick (1780-1873).
