Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866) satirical novelist and poet, from 1791 he lived with his mother at Chertsey, and later lived at Elmbank in Lower Halliford, then part of Oatlands Park. He supported his daughter Mary Ellen and husband George Meredith during their difficult years, but did not disapprove when Mary Ellen left Meredith for Henry Wallis. After Mary Ellen died, he brought up her sixteen year old daughter Clari Leigh Hunt.
