France's finest poet travelled over from his self-imposed exile in Guernsey to read some of his poetry to the widowed, exiled and sad French Queen Marie Amelie at Claremont. It's not known what she chose him to read, with such collections as 'Les Chatiments' and 'La Legende des Siecles' in his repertoire. Hugo is arguably most remembered for his novels 'Les Miserables' and 'Notre Dame de Paris' ('The Hunchback of Notre Dame').
